CSDL Print Services

For printing to the CSDL printers
hrllp.csdl.tamu.edu — the printer in room 408
csdlp.csdl.tamu.edu — the printer in room 344
you must set these up on your local computer as follows:

(to setup both printers you will have to repeat this procedure twice)

  1. Go to the Add Printers menu on WinXP: Start -> Printers and Faxes
  2. Click on the “Add a Printer” icon/link
  3. Go through all the Microsoft “user friendly information” stuff by clicking the “Next” button
  4. Choose the Option to install a “Local Printer”
  5. Uncheck the “Automatically Detect and install Plug and Play printer” checkbox
  6. Click “Next”
  7. Choose the option to “Create a new port”
  8. Set “Type of port” to “Standard TCP/IP port”
  9. Click “Next” A new Window should open up with more info
  10. Click “Next”
  11. Type the Printer IP Address: (hrllp — room 408) (csdlp — room 344)
Windows will complete the Port Name automatically.
  12. Click “Next”
  13. An “Install Printer Software” window should open up.
  14. In the left pane (Manufacturer), select HP
  15. In the right pane (Printers), select
    “HP Laserjet 4050 Series PCL6” (hrllp — room 408)
    “HP Laserjet 4100 Series PCL6” (csdlp — room 344)
  16. Click “Next”
  17. If you are asked whether to keep the existing driver, select the recommended option.
  18. Set a name for this printer. I recommend “Printer in 408” or “Printer in 344” to maintain consistency, but it could be anything that will help you recognize this printer.
  19. Choose whether you want this to be your default printer.
  20. Click “Next”
  21. Decide whether to share your printer.
  22. Click “Next”
  23. Choose “No” for printing a test page.
  24. Click “Next”
  25. Click “Finish”
Now, the new priner should be visible in your list of installed printers identified by the name you provided for it.
  26. Download the PCL separator file from http://www.csdl.tamu.edu/tools/pcl.sep or \\Kolache\shared\CSDLtools\pcl.sep
  27. Save this file in your Windows\System32 directory (C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Winnt\System32).
  28. Open the new Printer from the control panel. Right click on this printer and click on “properties” in the menu that appears. A tabbed “Properties” dialog box should be displayed.
  29. Click on the “Advanced” tab
  30. At the bottom of this pane, click on the “Separator Page…” button. A new dialog will open.
  31. Type in the path to your local copy of the separator file (or browse and select it from the System32 directory)
  32. Click “Ok”
  33. Try printing a test page. It should print with your cover page.
