While we are talking about the next meeting, I would like to bring up the point about disseminating what we've done/are doing to the wider community. In particular here I'm talking about getting something into the next Hypertext conference, but we might also be talking about doing something for the next WWW conference as well.
_(fwd link)_Many of you have expressed the concern that the proof of concept demo of OHP-nav shown at HT'98 cannot be developed into a successful research paper for HT'99. I think I disagree, but the feeling otherwise seems to be quite _(fwd link)_strong. If this is the case, then I would urge that we (or a subset of us) develop a technical briefing for HT'99 and try to persuade the PC for the conference to accept it as such for the proceedings. Or at least give us a slot at the conference to present it (I would prefer it to be in the proceedings for wider dissemination). What do others think? We really should make the wider community aware of what has been achieved.
Its Uffe we have to persuade after all - but I know he's tough on these things :-)
Maybe Joerg can persuade him and John that its good for the conference ..
>this is to put dates into your diaries - especially for those that
>expressed their interest at the last OHS workshop in Pittsburgh to
>participate at the OHS 4.5 working group meeting.
>Following the successes of previous OHS workshops, OHS working group
>meetings and in particular the great success of the interoperability demo
>at HT98 (as mentioned in Pete's e-mail) we would like to invite you to the
>OHS 4.5 working group meeting which will take place in Southampton from
>September 18-20 1998 (Friday to Sunday morning after MM98 in Bristol).
>The main aim of this meeting will be to adopt OHP-Nav (the Open Hypermedia
>Navigational Interface) as what we believe will be the version 1.0 of the
>protocol (perhaps we should refer to it as version 1.1 after the success of
>the demo). This is a very ambitious goal and it will mean that we will
>rather work on putting together pieces of code and/or definitions than
>discuss general issues of the protocol.
>I have set up a web page for the meeting which will be updated frequently:
>This page currently contains the following list of topics that should be
>addressed at the working group meeting:
>- Collaboration in OHP/OHP-Nav
>- Support for services in OHP/OHP-Nav
>- Definition of ContentSpecs, LocSpecs, ... with respect
> to XML Linking Language (XLink) and XML Pointer Language (XPointer)
>- JavaBeans and/for OHP
>Note, that this list is subject to discussions. And in order to make the
>working group meeting a successful meeting I welcome your feedback and
>input on this list.
