I disagree with the authors in the statement they make (page 416) that:
The asynchronous group support is an order of magnitude more difficult than working with synchronous groups
I think they require different support and have different problematic areas.
The approach of "toolbox" to Computer Mediated Communication systems clashes somehow with the approach of an "electronic medium".
I don't like the idea that roles should be encoded within a system, since they tend to support only stable (or static) organizations, limiting its applicability in real world organizations.
