Building the Business Case for Group Support Technology

It is a very straightforward presentation of the evaluation of a GroupWare application for Boeing Company. In particular they were looking at a Group Decision Support System (GDSS) called TeamFocus. The evaluation was a nine-month effort emphasizing the economic and business aspect of introducing GroupWare on the company. As a result of the evaluation, it was to be expected an increment of productivity of 71%.

The conclusion was that decision-makers would benefit from a GDSS whether they operated in a large commercial setting, a research environment or a small entrepreneurial organization. This result looks too optimistic, and even though time has passed, most organizations still have not adopted such technology. In addition, it should be noted that the role of a trained facilitator was very important for the system success.
