Beyond Being There

I found interesting the authors' point of view about trying not just to imitate face-to-face. The idea is that, from a usability perspective, videoconference is now somewhere in between a telephone conference and face-to-face. Moreover, since most of the research had focused on imitating the face-to-face, this is becoming like an asymptotic approach to face-to-face. The authors call on the idea of transcending this upper limit by providing features not available in face-to-face and therefore going "beyond being there". Additionally, another interesting proposal by the article is the framework of needs, medium and mechanisms.
