Awareness, as implied in this article involves the "I know what is happening", but additionally it should involve "the others knowing that that I am observing them" (because they are also aware). So it is not only knowing what they do and the other way around. It is also knowing that they know that you know.

There is a feeling of spying in this system. If people do not know each other, then there is no much (positive) benefit in observing (spying) the others.

A useful addition would be to log and index the video.

With the advancement of technology, the use of real video would be feasible. This might alleviate some of the issues with the communication.
