Summary

This work explores the use of video as the main tool for promoting and facilitating group work. While the idea seems simple, there are problems that need to be addressed, going from bandwidth requirements, to eye contact to gestures or social acceptance (Big Brother issue). One issue explored is the requirement for a shared space and shared computing facilities. Some projects provided these facilities, while others such a Media Space limit the interaction to just video. This has helped to identify different technical and social characteristics of teleconferencing.
