Filtering

ItLv provides two filtering options

• The "Classic" filter
  
  In this case, the user selects any of the attributes in the metadata and applies a logical operator (<, >, >=, <=, <>, =) to a value, creating a conditional statement. Elements that do not satisfy the condition are hidden from the display, depicting only those that satisfy the condition. A new conditional statement can be applied again to the subset obtained from the first filter, and the process can be repeated incrementally.
  
  
• The "On-the-fly" filter 
  
  In this case, a logical operator (<, >, >=, <=, <>, =) is applied to any of the attributes in the dataset. The filter is then activated every time the user mouses over one of the elements in the display, and the value of that element’s attribute is applied to the logical operator. Elements that do not satisfy the condition are hidden from the display, depicting those that satisfy the condition. When the user mouses out of the element all the hidden elements are depicted again. Therefore, the elements depicted at any given time vary from the conditional statement generated at that moment.
