Software Acquisition

Please go to the Registration/Download page to get the installation package.

• System Requirement
  • 35 MB of disk space. Extra space is needed for downloading (20MB) and unzipping (20MB).
  • Pointing device, e.g. mouse/touchpad/trackball.
  • At least 128MB RAM is recommended.
  • Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP.
    Porting to Mac OS X and Linux is in progress.
    Select "Mac" or "Linux" in the Registration/Download Page and follow the instructions.
    A much earlier version has been tried on Sun OS. Most major functions work fine, but we have since discontinued to test on Sun OS.
• Note
  • VKB can be uninstalled using the Windwos uninstall tool. See Uninstall section.
  • Java Virtual Machine is NOT required. VKB comes with its own JVM. VKB uses Sun JRE 1.3.1. and the JVM is bundled within VKB, so it won't interfere with your other Java installations/settings.

Installation

Just unzip and run setup.exe.

If you need a free zip/unzip tool in Windows, try 7-Zip.

Un-installation

Automatic

From Start/Settings/Control Panel, double-click on "Add/Remove Programs". Find "Visual Knowledge Builder" in the list and click on "Add/Remove" button

Manual

You can also manually remove VKB by deleting all the files in the VKB directory normally in "c:\program files\visual knowledge builder", and removing the following registries :

       HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.vkb
       HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/.xvkb
       HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/VKBFile
       HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/XVKBFile
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/.vkb
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/.xvkb
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/./VKBFile
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Classes/./XVKBFile
