IVICA Information & Update

First, let me thank you all for your interest in and, in many cases, help with IVICA.  I expect it will generate a lot of interesting conversations.

IVICA is meant to be a community enhancing event.  Because we are running this "on the cheap" to keep it reasonable for everyone, this is not quite like most ACM conferences.  As you know, it is being held on Texas A&M campus, rather than getting space at a hotel.  The result is there are a few inconveniences regarding getting to and from events (as nothing is really within walking distance in College Station.) Maps and directions are available.

You are all invited to Tamra's and my house on Friday evening around 7pm.  There will be plenty of finger food (cheese, crackers, chips, dips, etc.) and Texas Barbeque so you can make this your dinner as long as you don't mind real casual fare.  I suggest that you meet in the lobby of the Hilton at 7:00 pm and carpool over to my house (it is a 10 minute drive).  I know of at least 3 rental cars.  Also, Haowei Hsieh has graciously volunteered to pick people up on his way and I am sure I can find student drivers, if needed.

For Saturday and Sunday morning, we will start at 10 am in room 302 of the Harvey Bright Building (HRBB).  I recommend meeting in the lobby at 9:30 and carpooling to campus.  There are park-and-pay spaces in the Northside Garage which is on University Drive, just a couple miles down from the Hilton.  The process is you park in a non-reserved spot, notice the spot number, and go to one of the payment machines and pay for parking.  More information is available here. I expect $12 is plenty for Saturday and $6 is plenty for Sunday (including some time to walk to get lunch with folks near campus following the event.)

Saturday evening is our reception dinner at Messina Hof.  We will coordinate transportation at the meeting.  Let me know if there are any guests that are not registered for IVICA but that would like to go to the reception dinner.

Regarding College Station weather, it should be relatively warm.  The current forcast calls for highs of 77-80 degrees F (25-27 C) and lows of 52-63 F (11-17 C) with a chance of a few showers on Saturday (so bring an umbrella just in case).

Well, that is about it.  If you have questions, please contact me. I look forward to seeing you all in College Station on Friday.

Information about Program Now Available:

The schedule is now available. Also, here are a couple maps and driving directions to the various locations of IVICA-related events.  While not required, you may want to rent a car at the airport – College Station is not very easy to get around without a car.  We expect that most participants are willing to give a ride to those without a car and we will have students help taxi people to/from events. Contact Frank Shipman (shipman@cs.tamu.edu) if you have any questions about getting to/from College Station or to/from any of the events.

Registration is Now Open:

Registration for this 1 ½ day event is now available here.  Registration is open until October 19.
