Plants hermaphroditic, rhizomatous, perennial. Culms erect or ascending (more than 3 m tall), glabrous; internodes
hollow, terete. Leaves cauline, distichous; sheaths terete, margins open; auricles present or absent; ligules a ciliate
membrane; blades flat, linear, lax, apex acuminate. Panicles with primary branches ascending, contracted (dense).
Spikelets solitary, laterally compressed, disarticulation above the glumes, awnless or short awned; rachilla glabrous,
not extended beyond upper floret; pedicellate; florets 3-6, reduced floret at apex, callus hairy; glumes 2, 3-5-viened,
equal, longer than first floret, glabrous, awnless; lemmas 3-5-veined, hyaline or membranous, villous, apex entire,
awned or awnless, awn when present straight; paleas 2-veined , awnless, veins ciliate. Stamens 3; anthers tan.
Caryopses (?). Base chromosome number x=6.
A small genus of about three species.
