Phlox nivalis texensis grows only in the sandy soil of Pineywoods, old growth Loblolly Pine forests. Once located in several areas of Hardin, Polk, and Tyler Counties of East Texas, the Texas Trailing Phlox has been reduced to only two locations in Hardin and one location in Polk.
