History
The Star Cactus was placed under the endangered list in October 18, 1993. The cactus is under threat because it is highly prized by cactus collectionists due to its beauty and the fact that it is spineless. It is also endangered because of its loss of habitat. Root-plowing and other mechanical and chemical process have helped in the decline of this species. In the near future this cactus might be totally extinct in the Texas territory. The San Antonio Botanical Garden is trying to propagate the cactus, so it might be saved from extinction.
