Ecology and Distribution
Star Cactus grew in Cameron, Starr and Hidalgo Counties in Texas and in Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas in Mexico. In the present, it only grows in Starr county, Texas. Although it is almost eliminated in Texas, it is still abundant in Mexico. This species can be cultivated from seed if given the appropriate sandy conditions. The San Antonio Botanical Garden is working with this technique in order to propagate it.
