Ancistrocactus tobuschii can be found on rocky soil on the banks of rivers or mesatops. They prefer full sunlight although they can grow in slight shade. They are naturally found in areas that are between 400 and 500 meters of elevation and receive an average of 22 to 30 inches of precipitation.
