Economic importance - cashew,
pistachio,
ornamentals, poison ivy and
poison sumac.
Medicinal uses - All plants parts in Rhus aromatica, R.
copallina, R. glabra, and R. typhina have been used for a variety
of ailments; poison ivy has even been used for medicinal purposes but
it should be avoided entirely because of its toxicity.
Diagnostic characteristics - flowers 5-merous, stamens inserted
beneath a disc surrounding ovary, infl. paniculate
